Chesapeake Kennels 1940 to 1979

This is by no means all the kennels breeding through these years. Descriptions are limited to kennels no longer in existence or no longer breeding under the original owners names. Active kennel names listed as started in this time frame are based on date of the first litter or active participation. Some kennels more closely associated with field trials appear under Field Influences-Dogs and People.

The 1940's

Cocoa King

This kennel was located in Genoa City Wisconsin and owned by Ferdinand Bunte. The bulk of the kennel’s breeding and fame was made in the 1940’s. The kennel was headed by Ch The Second Cocoa*** a son of Bunte’s foundation bitch Lady King. “Coke” as he was called was a star performer in the field and was trained by Charles Morgan. William Brown considered him one of the retriever immortals.
