Bloodhounds
were introduced into the breed to improve its scenting ability for tracking
wounded birds in the water. So, hounds are without a doubt part of the breed’s
heritage. Definite crosses were also made to the Irish Water Spaniel- Albert
Harris recorded his matings to his Irish Water Spaniel Captain Kidd and
the subsequent backcrosses. One look at the two dogs pictured easily attests
to crosses to the Irish Water Spaniel.
