OFA/PennHip and CERF numbers are mandatory to list a litter. CERF certificate are valid for only one year and are mandatory to list a litter. The eye exam is performed by a ACVO board certified opthalmologist and notes the presense of abnormalities.

The status of the DNA test for Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) is listed at the discretion of the breeder, and will otherwise be listed as UNKNOWN. PRA causes eventual blindness. The disease is caused by a recessive gene mutation. Each parent carries two copies of the gene. One gene from each parent is randomly passed on to the offspring. So depending on the PRA status of the parents the offspring can be either Normal, a Carrier, or Affected. Ony Affected results in blindness as two copies, one from each parent, of the gene mutation must be inherited. Normal (no gene mutation) to Normal produces all Normals. Normal to Carrier (carries one copy of the gene mutation) can produce both Normals and Carriers. Carrier to Carrier can produce Normals, Carriers, and Affecteds. Normals to Affected produces all Carriers.

Always ask the breeder for current proof of certifications, and pedigree. it is the buyers responsibility.
