She is on anabolic steroids and has been for about three months. Her back end was becoming very week and she was having trouble going up stairs and even at some point walking. The steroids have helped keep her going. She is doing stairs pretty well now and can trot along for a walk. She still can't climb in bed with me which I miss. Now the side affects: Derby is hungry all the time. She is also very hot. She pants a lot. We keep the air conditioner cooler than normal so she is more comfortable. My sister's basset took anabolic steroids and she used a fan to blow on the dog pillow so the basset was more comfortable. The steroids can cause aggression (Roid rage). Derby hasn't had any problem with that. They can also cause cancer. But with Derby's age our vet did not think she would live long enough to develop cancer. They have worked well for us. Derby has taken Glucosamine/Chondroitin for years. She also start Rimadyl this summer on a regular basis. Before that she took it as needed. The steroids are hard to find. They are very regulated because of the abuse by athletes. Rita
