Kathy Miller just emailed and gave me permission to share these thoughts with you and since I see someone else has the same question, I thought I would quote it in full. I just made an appointment with my vet to take Eppie to him tomorrow. Therese

"If this has been going on with Eppie for any length of time, it could actually be a staph infection that has developed from the initial skin infection. Staph is a bugger to get rid of and can get into an allergy affected body and create the sores like the ones that Christina photographed on Nemo. A 3-4 week course of antiobiotics is the only way to get rid of it as that's how long it takes to expunge the staph from the body!

If you haven't already done it, I would also suggest having the vet do blood allergy testing on Eppie for both environmental factors and food factors and proceed with a course of action commensurate with the results of that testing. I had this done on one of my bitches years ago and found she was highly allergic to all the food products that she should not have been allergic to and once I found a food that was void of these irritants, there was a 90% improvement in the bitch.

And, lastly, I would also run a full thyroid panel as often times a low thyroid value of any kind can open the body up for these type of infection. That was also the case with my bitch, and between food and a daily thyroid pilil, we got her about 98% under control"
