It is a simple battery operated massager. HomeMedics makes a nice little massager that has three ball legs and is quiet - a plus not to alarm dogs. Most pharmacies carry it ($10). Gently massage top of back, rear, & side of legs in small circular motions. Only use massager for 15 minute lengths (max) because the vibration and stimulation will 'pool' blood into the area - will heat area like a heating pad. Then allow area to rest 1 hour between massages with vibrator/massager. This is effective for arithritis (muscles surrounding joints), muscle & skin tightness, and sprains. Do not massage bone, head, or open wounds although. But the lower back/base of tail and side of legs will loosen muscles that often cause siffness/soreness when the dog gets up from lying or sitting extended periods However check the dog's gait to make sure the hip is not dislocated or injured ( possible cause of pain too). Rub the dog's muscles and feel if they (muscles) freely move about or are rigid and stiff. Also if the skin is free moving. If not, there is tightness and a massager will help. Mentioned as an alternative to medication - often causing other health problems in the long term - esp if given daily. Charlie
