They would clean the area and then put a healing type antibiotic cream and then place a duoderm (that is the name of the type of bandage) on it. This duoderm (meaning second skin) was kept on it to kept on it for a few days and then the process went again. I don't know if this helps for a canine; it sure worked for my 88+ year old mom.
