The hair on the ridge actually lays in a different direction than all of the other hair. When we refer to a dog "getting their hackles up" we are referring to a dog raising their hair up when in a dominant or defensive state. I had a loose Labrador approach me last week when I had my dog on a leash at an outdoor picnic area. The Lab rushed my dog quickly with his hackles up. I told the owner, who was following at some distance, to get his dog. He, of course, told me that his dog was friendly. I told him that his hackles were up and he needed to get him away from my dog immediately. My group of friends all got up and surrounded Bo'sun to prevent the lab from getting to him. Bo'sun is an innocent, trusting, young dog and I didn't want to see him get clobbered. Do you have a current picture of Ohana that you can post. I'm a CBR rescue volunteer and we are always challenged with trying to identify dogs. Based upon Ohana's puppy pictures, I didn't think she had any CBR in her, but I'd love to see how she looks now to see how she's developing. Follow Ups:
