Subject: we are in a class finally!! And a couple of questions. Long

It was well worth the wait about 3 hours! But we are in. Is it usually that long of a wait for other AKC clubs just curious?
I am so excited to finally be in a class. Not to sure about Lindy thou. She is nervous about the whole thing. She looks at me like come on mom do we really have to do this. Her being nervous is the biggest reason that I we are in a class other than the fact that I really want to learn.
She was never nervous until she had her dew claw fixed. Ever since then she just seems to be a nervous nilly when we are out. The vet we go to is wonderful and I watched the surgery. Never any troubles with handling or anything. I don't know if it was the cone or what. But thats history. Never any problems with the vet. I had her spayed about a month ago and no problems then just nervous. Everytime we go it gets better.
So I think this class will be a huge help even if we have to take it 20 times. By the end of the first class she wasn't near as as jittery. So every week it will get better. We are in beginner class.
Some of the questions that I have are what do some of you use for a release command. I was using Ok until I realised how much I use the word with everyday life. So we are using the word free. She seems to be picking that up pretty good.
One word commands they say not to use your dogs name. Like for sit, stay, down. We have been doing great with that. But would I use her name for the release command and also to come or just say the command. A little confused on this.
Right now the biggest thing we are working on is having her walk toward me with her head up. She doesn't seem to be looking toward me. I don't know if I was holding the treat to low or all she cared about was the treat. I tried to hold it a little higher but that didn't work either. Maybe I should try using a toy. She knows watch me. And if I say that she will pay attention. So I am not sure if I should say watch me, lets go.
Any suggestions on treats for training.
One of the big questions is should I take her to different areas to try all of this training since one of the problems is her being nervous. She goes just about everywhere with me she is just unsure. I am looking for any suggestions to help her get over this.
We are doing great with everything else so far.
Thanks for all your help
Julie
