Long posted by sunnydays06 on July 08, 2008 at 20:51:09: When Eppie and I went to class, our trainer had me have Eppie sitting at heel by my left side and then I would say "Ready" while holding the treat between my thumb and index finger in my right hand and holding it against my forehead so Eppie would look up at the treat and also to me. The "Ready" was the clue to Eppie to look up. Then after she got this down, I held the behind the top of my head and would show it once in a while to keep Eppie looking up at me. And then after she was consistent in looking up, I would gradually move my right hand slowly down the right side and hold my hand down by my side out of Eppie's site. This took a long time and patience. We would do very short trainings... and I would want Eppie to do "watch me" at least 4 times out of 5 each time.
