Parvovirus is the number one reason that young dogs shouldn't be taken out into public before they've completed the series of puppy vaccines. Parvo is left in fecal matter which decomposes and becomes part of the soil. Any area where infected dogs may have left fecal matter is a danger to unprotected youngsters. I cringe everytime I see folks out in public with their new puppies.

You'd be amazed at how many people don't keep their dogs vaccinations up-to-date. You can't assume that the dogs around you are healthy. I live in in a very poor neighborhood and I am sure that most of the dogs around me are not vaccinated.
