If you can, see if this dog has a fenced yard or what. A young dog without fencing may not being getting enough daily exercise. Doesn't matter to me that the owner takes the dog hunting periodically...it's the day-to-day access to exercise that I'd wonder about. A lack of fencind could also relate directly to why the owner is concerned about placing the dog in a home with kids...kids trespassing, visiting, or the ones that live there. The owner's problems with this dog could be directly related to how isolated a life this dog has had before age 1.

My guess is that this dog is not walked in public 4 or 5 times a week and may never have attended any group obedience classes. He needs a home where someone will make a point of exposing him to the world, teaching him not to spook at whatever, not to overreact to strangers. Lots of weekly group obedience classes and leashed walks in a variety of places. I would also guess that this owner is simply freaked out over the snapping and resource guarding because this Chessie didn't exhibit this behavior when he was a lot younger....they can be so cute and benign when they're 5 months old afterall. Then they approach age 1 and that Chessie mind starts to think a little differently.

Anyway, I think a question about fencing, group obedience classes, and exposure off the property could be quite revealing.
